What changed with Tesla Solar Roof?

On August 24, 2026, Reuters reported that Tesla had stopped selling Solar Roof tiles through its public website and that the former Solar Roof product path was redirecting homeowners toward Tesla Solar Panels. That closed the normal public retail path for new Solar Roof orders.

Tesla continues to maintain Solar Roof support and warranty information online for existing systems and project documentation. Those support pages should not be interpreted as confirmation that Solar Roof is available for a new retail project.

What is HUS doing now?

For a new project, HUS does not treat Solar Roof as the default or standard Tesla solar path. The current comparison is:

  • Tesla Solar Panels + Powerwall when that equipment path is available for the property.
  • Conventional premium solar panels + Powerwall when another panel solution is a better fit.
  • New solar-ready roof + solar panels + Powerwall when the existing roof is near replacement.

What happens to existing or previously approved Solar Roof projects?

A product being removed from public sale does not by itself determine the status of every project that was already designed, approved, allocated, permitted, contracted or under installation. Those projects need to be reviewed individually against their actual documents and current Tesla instructions.

If HUS is already working on your Solar Roof project, continue using your existing project communication channel. If the roof is still in good condition, the homeowner may not need roof replacement at all. HUS can review roof condition first and then determine whether the project should be solar only, solar + Powerwall, or roof + solar + Powerwall.

Should I wait for Solar Roof to come back?

HUS does not recommend delaying a needed roof, solar or battery project based on an assumption that Solar Roof will return. A homeowner who needs a roof now should compare currently available roofing and solar solutions using the actual roof condition, utility territory, energy use, battery goals and budget.

If Tesla changes the product program again in the future, HUS can update this guidance. Until then, new-project planning should be based on products and installation paths that are actually available for the property.
